What is Coaching & Counselling?

Counselling is a process where an individual (known as a client, and not a patient) looks into the past to understand themselves better today. Some examples include: childhood, pinnacle events, relationships, losses, traumas, the self, etc.

So once you know what has happened to you in the past and how this has affected the person you are today, then the process of coaching can start. So who do you want to be and where do you want to go? With coaching the client can learn different skills to become their best new version and maintain it.

Both are based on positive psychology where the coach/counsellor acts as an observer or guide in this process. It is based on Rogerian Theory (Carl Rogers) of listening, empathizing, acceptance and having a genuine regard for the other. That means that it is understood that a person can be going through a difficult time, but not exactly meaning that there is something wrong with the person themselves. During one session, coaching and counselling can occur since within a timeline a client can look into the past, the present and later the future.
